On October 16, 2024, Smeg Indonesia hosted an intimate private dinner at their showroom at the Indonesia Design District PIK 2, to celebrate the launch of the “La Storia del Fiore”. This exclusive event marked the collaboration between Smeg and esteemed Indonesian designer Didiet Maulana, Creative Director of IKAT Indonesia. The partnership, rooted in a shared love for heritage and craftsmanship, brings together Italian design elegance with the rich cultural narratives of Indonesia.
Held in conjunction with the inaugural Indonesian Design Week 2024, the evening showcased the unveiling of a one-of-a-kind Smeg FAB28 refrigerator, reimagined through the creative vision of Didiet Maulana. His design seamlessly blends Indonesian bamboo shoot and ulerati motifs—symbols of growth and prosperity—with the architectural grandeur of Palazzo Ducale in Guastalla, Italy, Smeg’s birthplace. The result is a fusion of two distinct yet harmonious design languages, celebrating both tradition and innovation.
Nicky Kusuma, Director of PT Casa Toffin Indonesia, the exclusive distributor of Smeg in Indonesia, expressed pride in bringing this unique collaboration to life: “Smeg has always been more than just an appliance brand—it stands as a testament to refined design. With iconic designs, such as the retro 50’s Style series, we are committed to offering products that marry beauty with functionality. We’re honored to present this extraordinary collaboration, where Italian and Indonesian artistry come together, forging a meaningful connection between our two cultures.”
As Didiet Maulana expressed, “This collaboration is a tribute to the uniqueness of both countries. The philosophy behind the motif draws a parallel between flowers and the human journey, in which humans grow through life experiences. Life is symbolized by the soil, and our evolution is reflected in the transformations we undergo through our experiences.”
Before making its way to Smeg’s headquarters in Guastalla, where it will join a global collection of design masterpieces, this exclusive refrigerator will be displayed for one month at Smeg’s showroom in PIK 2.
The “La Storia del Fiore” collaboration exemplifies Smeg’s dedication to bridging cultures through art and design, further solidifying its reputation as a brand that unites beauty, heritage, and innovation.
